The project began with a question about family life. How can three generations live under one roof and stay connected day to day? In most homes, everyone eventually retreats to their own room, and the house becomes a collection of private spaces rather than a shared one.
We envisioned a vertical volume at the heart of the house — one that links all floors and encourages interaction, both visual and spatial, as the family moves through their daily routines. Light and life flow through this central space. At ground level, a courtyard offers a place to pause and gather when arriving home, before each person retreats to their private quarters.
The design draws on the memory of the site. Bricks and vent blocks, materials already present on the land, are carried into the new structure, lending it a sense of familiarity and permanence. The form is simple and solid, wrapping around the centre of the house and shielding it from the harsher edges of the site. Rather than looking outward, the house turns inward — quiet, grounded, and built around the life shared within.
