Terrace houses are often dark in the middle, as light and wind can only enter from the front and rear. This became our central question: how do we bring light and breeze into the heart of the house?
We began by shifting the building slightly to one side, placing the staircase and corridor along the offset gap. Since these circulation areas are open passages, they allow air to flow freely throughout the day and night. The gaps between the stair treads and metal railings let the breeze pass through, while louvred windows maximise airflow even during rain.
To draw more light into the centre, we removed volume at the front of the house, opening the two floors into a single double-height space. Positioned beside this void, the staircase and corridor become channels for both light and breeze, drawing them deeper into the home.
